[ARCHIVED] Lexington Boulevard & West 5th Street To Be Closed For Overlay Project

Weather permitting, beginning Monday April 25th, West 5th Street and Lexington Boulevard will be closed for a concrete overlay project starting at the intersection with North Avenue D to the end of the pavement on Lexington Boulevard.  This project will resurface the existing pavement with 6 inches of portland cement concrete and place new granular shoulder material.  In January of 2022, the contract for this project was awarded to Jones Contracting Corp of West Point, Iowa for $969,707.77.

West 5th Street and Lexington Boulevard Street will be closed to thru traffic and work is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on Monday April 25th.  Thru traffic will be detoured around the project using West 18th Street and Iowa Highway 1.  Access to local businesses and residences will be allowed as much as possible; however, at times access may be limited or from other ways than normally traveled.  Residents are encouraged to use the designated detour route and to use caution while traveling on the detour or in the area of the work zone.

The project roads will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed by late May.   The Washington County Engineer realizes this project will create an inconvenience for local traffic, however, when the project is completed, it will create a significant improvement to these roads.

Any questions about the project should be directed to the Washington County Engineer's Office.
