County Treasurer

Access to the Washington County courthouse is limited for Motor Vehicle and Property Tax transactions.  All Driver's License services require an appointment.  Please check in with the door attendant upon arrival.  Please call 319-653-7721 for assistance and for alternative payment methods.

Duties and Responsibilities

The County Treasurer is elected at general election every 4 years, with responsibilities generally focusing on four distinct functions of county government:
  1. Finance
  2. Property Tax
  3. Motor Vehicle
  4. Drivers License
As the county's chief financial officer, the treasurer is responsible for the receipt, management, disbursement, and investment of all monies paid to Washington County.


      Property Tax:  8:00 am to 4:15 pm -- Monday through Friday
      Motor Vehicle:  8:00 am to 4:15 pm (no vehicle transfers after 4:00 pm)
      Driver's License: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (all services by appointment only)
       * Knowledge Testing:  By appointment only
       * Car Driving Tests:  By appointment only
