Duties and Responsibilities
As the county's chief financial officer, the treasurer is responsible for the receipt, management, disbursement, and investment of all monies paid to Washington County.
The treasurer is responsible to collect all property taxes, mobile/manufactured home taxes, special assessments, and intergovernmental reimbursements for Washington County. These collections are then either apportioned to various taxing authorities within the county (schools, cities, townships, etc.) or held in different county funds until they are needed.
The treasurer, serving as an agent for the Iowa Department of Transportation, is responsible for titling and registration of all licensable motor vehicles owned by Washington County residents as well as the titling of all mobile/manufactured homes located within the county.
The county treasurer, through a 28-E agreement with the State of Iowa, processes driver’s license transactions and administers written/driving tests.
Hours:Property Tax: 8:00 am to 4:15 pm -- Monday through Friday
Motor Vehicle: 8:00 am to 4:15 pm (no vehicle transfers after 4:00 pm)
Driver's License: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (all services by appointment only)
